My wife and I are going to Washington DC - we leave today, September 10th to attend a grassroots patriot rally at the United States Capitol on Saturday, September 12th. We are going because we know this: although she and I by ourselves have voices that are too small to influence any type of change in our country’s government, if we will join our voices with others who are willing, changes can - and will - happen.
I have simple beliefs, live a pretty simple life and like it that way. I am not a lower class of citizen than those in power on Capital Hill; perhaps, even, the opposite. It is time for me to put aside political party titles, class differences, and anything else that might get in the way of being a Constitution-abiding citizen of this great country. I wish I had realized these things about a decade ago. Maybe this would not be my first trip to DC.
I was motivated a few weeks back by Glenn Beck who, for those who may not know, has a radio talk show and hosts a Fox News Network program. While I sometimes do not agree with what he says and I often disapprove of his delivery, he has offered some undisputable truths about how our government has evolved AWAY from one that is of, by, and for the People to one that is of, by, and for They whose money and power has allowed them to remain in public office too long, as well as those whom They appoint to positions of power.
Mr. Beck initiated what he termed the “9.12 Project.” Simply put, the project is based on the unity that was felt on September 12, 2001, the day after our country was attacked by terrorists. Do you remember that feeling? There were very few Democrats or Republicans, only Americans. And Americans should not be underestimated - by terrorists or anyone else, including other Americans. The “9.12 Project” resonated within me because I remember that feeling.
There are 9 principles set forth in this “Project.” I am not asking you to agree with or believe in these principles, I am asking you to thoughtfully read them. You may find that at least some of them are worthy of further consideration:
The Nine Principles
- America is good.
- I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
- I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
- The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
- If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
- I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
- I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
- It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
- The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
There are also 12 values attached to this project. Values are just that: what we value. You may have to do some research on a few of them to find out not only what they mean, but how they apply in your life.
The 12 Values

Honesty
- Honesty
- Reverence
- Hope
- Thrift
- Humility
- Charity
- Sincerity
- Moderation
- Hard Work
- Courage
- Personal Responsibility
- Gratitude
These are good values and I will strive to build them into my life - for my God, my family, myself - and my country.
I hope that you will contemplate the words written here. Maybe I’ll see you at the rally…
As always, I welcome you comments and feedback.
